What is Lyme disease?
Lyme disease is the fastest growing infectious disease in the world. And is caused by the Borrelia bacterium. This is a screw-like bacterium also called spirochetes. The disease is named after the village of Lyme in Connecticut in the USA where there was an epidemic outbreak in 1975. Lyme is often transmitted by a tick.
